The Friday Five

The most delicious smelling pumpkin candle & celebrating Oktoberfest with all the food

Four posts in one week - who am I?!  It feels good to be back in the blogging swing of things.  We had a good week and I can't believe it's the end of September already.  It's really feeling like fall here as it's been in the lower 60's and rainy all week.  I even turned the heat on!  I say it's for the baby... but really I'm the baby when it comes to being cold.  The forecast looks like more of the same for the weekend and we actually don't have any plans, so we'll probably be sticking close to home!

ONE | We have a corner of our living room that is in desperate need of help.  It's just sitting there empty and I'm so sick of it driving me crazy, so I finally got to work on fixing that this week!  I decided to go with a console table (thinking about this one) and a gallery wall.  But since gallery walls give me a bit - no, a lot - of anxiety with all of the measuring and holes in the wall, I decided to take the easy way out and use shelves to layer pictures on.  I bought these from Amazon and am crossing my fingers they're good quality! I'm excited to get to work on this project and hopefully will have a completed wall to share on here soon!

TWO | Haddie is breaking out of the swaddle on the regular now and a couple of times this week, I found her sleeping on her side which freaked me out (her arms were out though thankfully).  I think it's time to transition her to the next stage 'swaddles' - I've heard great things about the Merlin's Magic Sleepsuit, Summer Infant SwaddleMe Wiggle Blanket and the Zipadee-Zip... anyone have any recommendations for one in particular?!

THREE | I ordered my first pair of Ugg boots since college!  Last spring, I came across the Amie Slim version in a Nordstrom store and surprisingly loved them.  They are much more flattering on, while still being super warm and comfy like the Ugg brand is known for.  They'll look so cute with both jeans and leggings and you can't beat how easy they are to just throw on and go.  Nordstrom actually has quite a few different styles of Uggs on sale if you're in the market.

FOUR | Another order placed this week was for the Pioneer Woman's Holiday Cookbook and I cannot wait for it to get here!  You can't go wrong with her recipes - there are over 140 of them in the book - and I love that it includes entire meal plans for each holiday.  I'm thinking it will get lots of use during the upcoming holiday season.  I already have plans to make the popcorn balls for Halloween, yummm.

FIVE | This is for my fellow shorties: if you love the Zella leggings, you have to get a pair of the midi version (here).  I always have to fold the bottoms of my leggings up, but these are the perfect length for me at 5'3" and hit right at my ankle!  They are the same great quality as the regular Zella leggings - just a more appropriate length for us to wear with athletic shoes or flats.

Have a great weekend!

  2. Surprisingly with all of the anxiety I have, I LOVE creating gallery walls! I have yet to share the one in my living room and I hope to finish Rory's gallery wall this weekend or next. I can't wait to see what you put together. I threw out my last pair of Uggs last year because they were really beaten up, had a hole in them and I let Audrey get a hold of them when she was a puppy. With being pregnant this fall and winter, I'm contemplating buying a new pair to keep my feet comfy and cozy.

  5. We never used a swaddle with R, but everyone I know swears by the magic Merlin suit! So that might be a good one :) I made a gallery wall over my desk, and I didn't measure anything! I hung up one picture and just added pictures and things as I found them. It started with 4 and now has 7 frames and it looks great! Just an option for another way to make a gallery wall if you don't want to plot it all out in advance :) I love this way because I don't have the pressure of all the measuring, etc.

  10. Ah that holiday cookbook sounds right up my alley too!! And to transition out of the swaddle we loved Halo sleepsacks. We started by unswaddling one arm and then both by just wrapping the swaddle around his chest so he still had that feeling of being cuddled. Worked like a charm! I have heard good things about the magic sleepsuit but also that its hard to transition out of for some babes. Good luck!

  11. The Pioneer Woman Holiday Cookbook is one of my favorites! I reference it all the time, not just for holidays. I'm in the process of finally decorating/furnishing our "formal" living space, too and it's driving me nuts. Let me know how those shelves work out!

  16. Bennett is breaking out of the swaddle too! I'm not ready for this transition :( With Camden, we just started swaddling him with one arm out using the halo sleep sacks. I may have to try it with baby b. He likes to suck on his hands, so maybe that will help him self soothe. Thanks for the heads up on the shortie version of the zella leggings! I have the same issue!!

  18. I love gallery walls but they give me anxiety too!!! You will have to let me know what swaddle you get next so I know for the future too. There are so many options out there for every baby item it is so hard to chose!!! I have never owned a pair of Uggs but I want some! Hope you have a great weekend!

  19. Do you wear socks with the Ugg boots? I have seen people do it, but the socks kept crinkling/bunching under my feet.

  20. We used merlin's sleep suit and loved it! Once Oliver rolled over in it around 7 months, we used sleepsacks and had no issues with the transition. The Merlin suit wasn't magic at first, but he was also going through the 4 month sleep regression so I'm sure that was a big part of it, but once he got used to it after a few nights, it was great! I'm going to be on the lookout for the PW cookbook!
