Monday Check In

Happy Monday from the snow globe that is Western Michigan! That picture was taken on Saturday evening. It was literally 70 degrees and sunny on Friday - I had all of the windows open in my house! - and we woke up on Sunday to twenty degree temps and a blizzard. I couldn't even believe it, but that's Michigan for ya.

It was a GREAT day to watch football... on the couch, but instead we headed out to tailgate bright and early. Our alma mater, Western Michigan University, is having a huge year. We are ranked #14 and 11-0 right now. ESPN's College Game Day was in town for our game, so you can imagine that all of our college friends wanted to come back to experience that! If only the weather would have cooperated, but in a way it also kind of added to the crazy day. Besides, my trusty North Face jacket, Sorel boots (on sale!) and beanie kept me quite warm. It was so great to see all of our friends and we can't even wait for WMU's next game on Friday. We're crossing our fingers to continue our undefeated streak and a trip to the Cotton Bowl this year.

Is everyone ready for Thanksgiving?! In a strange turn of events, we are actually staying HOME this year. We're so excited. My family is going to come over in the afternoon, but otherwise we're going to get to stay here and just chill for the whole long weekend, no traveling. It is so very needed. Nick is going to do a turkey in the smoker and I'm in charge of the rest of the food - give me your best Thanksgiving recipe!

  1. Oh my gosh, how funny. We were watching y'all on TV from our tailgate in Athens, Georgia on Saturday. We sat there watching the flurries fly around as they talked about College Game Day and we were just like, "Wow! That weather is insane!" What a great season for Western Michigan, congrats!

  2. So much going on! I'm glad you guys had fun despite the frigid weather. As for Thanksgiving, I grew up eating something called Red Dish - cranberries, pineapple, and walnuts. It sounds weird, but it's tasty. We also make stuffing balls in muffin cups so every serving is crispy and delicious.

  7. How crazy about that weather, but yay for your alma mater football team - so exciting! And yay for being home for Thanksgiving. My must-haves for the big day are homemade mashed potatoes, green bean casserole, pumpkin cheesecake, and my mom's stuffing recipe. Let me know if you'd like to have that for Thursday ;-)

  10. Ahhh I love the fur detailing of your boots, so stinking cute!!!! It got "cold" here for a day but we are back up to the high in the 60's today. Go figure. I cant believe Thanksgiving is this week! Crazy talk! The only place we are going is Chris's parents house on Thursday so we will have a pretty chill weekend as well. Normally we are driving around everywhere. Hope you have a great week!

  13. So fun! We have Michigan football season tickets and went to the game Saturday, it was COLD. Fun but cold. I hadn't quite gotten around to investing in a coat that will fit this bump of mine, because as you said it was in the 70's the day before. Ha! Rookie mistake ;) My new holiday favorite is broccoli gratin. I had it at Ruth's Chris one time and had to have it at home. It is super easy and was a big hit when I made it at Easter.

  22. It's so funny because Ohio is the exact same way with the weather. We had 70 degree temps on Friday then I went outside Saturday and nearly had to CHANGE because it was so cold out - and I saw flakes of snow!!! Insane. I hope you guys have an amazing Thanksgiving, it sounds like it'll be low key, which is wonderful!
